Season 2: The Obsidian Loom

Transitional Season

Season 2 serves as a transitional testing season. During this phase, you will encounter frequent, dynamic changes to levels, enemy designs, and gameplay mechanics on a near-daily basis as we test, iterate, and refine new features in preparation for Season 3.

Season 2 poster

Season 2 introduces The Obsidian Loom, a new Abyssal region in the world of Dice or Die.

Unlike the Veilwood, which was a haunted and corrupted forest, the Loom is a buried ceremonial ruin: a sacred defense complex of black-glass sanctums, stepped stone courts, sealed vaults, and towering guardian statues that never truly stopped performing their function.

It is a darker, more deliberate place, built around structure rather than wilderness. Entering it feels less like crossing into a living ecosystem and more like trespassing into an ancient system of protection that still recognizes intruders.

New Playable Heroes

Season 2 introduces two new playable heroes to Dice or Die: Demolitionist and Thief.

Both are built to match the structure, greed, and collapse-oriented identity of the Obsidian Loom.

  • Demolitionist brings preparation, explosive setups, and controlled collapse.
  • Thief brings greed, disruption, theft, and risk-reward utility.

The Creatures of the Loom

The central enemy family of the season is Golems.

They are ancient defenders bound to sacred containment logic. They fight in formation, protect one another, and force players to think about target priority before damage output.

Lifebond is an innate Golem ability. While the linked creature remains alive, the bonded Golem becomes invincible and cannot be damaged. This forces players to break the formation in the correct order before they can reach the real threat.

The season has new monsters of some already known types that return to make a presence here with new challenges.

These are some of the new enemies:

  • Rootweb Broodmother represents the predatory danger hidden around the ruin layers.
  • Void Trapper gives the Loom a sparse but sharp Ethereal presence without taking over the season’s identity.
  • Boomtoad supports the season’s unstable, explosive pressure from the beast side of the region.

New Mechanics

Season 2 is built around preparation, pressure, and collapse.

Bombs

Season 2 introduces bomb-like temporary equipment installed directly onto die slots during combat.

These effects are planted first and paid out later. Some activate when a face is rolled, some can be detonated manually, and some punish delay. Bombs make combat feel less about immediate burst and more about setting traps into enemy structures.

Explosive Status

Explosive causes a character to damage the rest of its team when it dies.

This creates chain-reaction opportunities, rewards good kill order, and makes enemy clustering dangerous for the defenders themselves.

Stealing Items

Season 2 also expands the role of theft and disruption through the Thief.

Stealing is not just flavor here. It is part of the season’s combat and reward identity:

  • robbing enemy potions
  • stealing Bombs
  • disrupting guarded targets
  • turning enemy tools into your own advantage

This fits the Loom because the region is built around guarded value, sealed relics, and treasure that was never meant to be taken cleanly.
